The LRC concept is a cutting-edge solution for large-scale underground storage of pressurized gases. As shown in the figure (Damasceno, 2022), the steel lining ensures gas-tightness, while the surrounding rock mass provides confinement for the internal pressure. The LRC excels compared to other solutions due to its geological flexibility, enabling energy storage placement close to demand centers.
